ANTONY PEEBLES: Piano
In April 1971 Antony Peebles won
the BBC Piano Competition, with an unanimous vote from
the jury. Vlado Perlemuter declared to the jury
that he had never heard "Gaspard de la Nuit" played
better. Exactly 20 years later Mr. Peebles's interpretation
of this work is set down here on Compact Disc.
Mr. Peebles also won the Debussy
Competition in France, in 1972. Since then he
has had a busy career, with a particularly international
flavour. He has now performed in over 100 countries,
the most recent of these being Algeria and Czechoslovakia.
Back in the UK he has played with most of the
leading orchestras, and he appears regularly at the
Barbican and the South Bank. He has made numerous
broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and plays for many music clubs
up and down the country.
