SIMON ROWLAND-JONES: Viola
Simon Rowland-Jones studied at
the Yehudi Menuhin School (where he later taught), the
RCM and at the Academia di Santa Cecilia. He was
the founder violist of the Chilingirian Quartet, in
which he played for ten years. As a soloist he
has made a number of CDs on the Meridian and Etcetera
labels, including the complete Bach Cello Suites. His
own transcription of the suites is now published by
Peters Edition. He is currently working on a new peforming/critical
edition of the Haydn String Quartets. He is also
a composer, mainly of chamber music. Several years
ago he created fiddleSpeak, combining words and music
into programmes for speaker, viola and tape. Research
Interests: Performance editions [in particular a new
critical performance edition of the complete Haydn String
Quartets.
