ROSEMARY SQUIRES: Vocals
Born in Bristol, moved to Salisbury
at an early age Rosemary soon became a regular guest
with national bands from Geraldo to Ted Heath to Syd
Lawrence - all the big named bands have used her talents;
including nowadays the 'Miller' bands, national jazz
orchestras, the BBC Concert Orchestra and, of course,
her regular guest appearances with the BBC Big Band.
Much in demand as a Broadcaster,
both at home and in Europe, she is credited with more
broadcasts than any other female singer. With
three TV Series of her own and a number of Radio Series
her guest list included Matt Munroe and, of course Dennis
Lotis. She in turn was much in demand as a guest
with all the well known names including Danny Kaye,
Morecambe and Wise and Mike Yarwood. Inevitably
this led to the variety stage including sesons with
Ken Dodd at the London Palladium, Manchester Opera House,
Blackpool and all the top resorts. Her major concert
take in the Albert Hall, the Festival Hall and Salisbury
Cathedral. In the USE Rosemary wotked with
Sammy Davis Jnr, Dizzy Gillespie, Victor Borge, Henry
Fonda and many others on the Johnny Carson show in New
York..
From standards to jazz and then
to commercials where her reputation to have sung more
jingles than any other person earned her the title "Queen
of the Jingles". "Hands that do dishes..." is the longest
running jingle ever.
Rosemary's record sales total
millions having recorded on Decca, HMV, EMI and Reader's
Digest labels, and more recently for Meridian and Carlton.
Her fun record "Frankfurter Sandwiches' under
the name of Joanne is one of the most requested records
ever. Much sought after as a cabaret artiste she
appears at the London Hilton, Pizza on the Park, and
recently at the Savoy for Prince Edward's 30th birthday.
Rosemary's popularity throughout
the years is attributed that she is always herself and
remains true to her individual style. Her real
secret is that she maintains a quality of presentation
and with her wide repertoire she is admired by and can
call upon the top musicians in the country.
There is a timelessness about
Rosemary Squires that people expect to switch on Radio
2 and hear one of her numbers. Even Her Majesty
The Queen Mother said to her not so long ago "Don't
ever stop singing, will you..."
