IVOR BOLTON: Director
Ivor Bolton read music at Clere
College, Cambridge, and studied the organ with Peter
Hurford and Gillian Weir. During this time he obtained
BA and MusB degrees and was Assistant Conductor to Philip
Ledger of the Cambridge University Musical Society.
He also made his first record and BBC recital on the
organ. He continued his studies at the Royal College
of Music where he was Conducting Scholar and gained
major prizes in conducting and harpsichord solo and
continuo. A year at the National Opera Studio coincided
with his appointment as conductor of Schola Cantorum
of Oxford. Ivor Bolton was appointed Chorus Director
at Glyndebourne, and has been Dorector of Music at St.
Jame's Piccadilly and of the Piccadilly Festival since
1982. A recent article by Classical Music described
him as a musician "not just of formidable talents, but
also of extraordinary energy and drive."
